Sixty-four cementless primary total hip arthroplasties in 53 patients using UGP-I were performed at Kyungpook national univerity hospital from feb. 1986 to May 1991. We analyzed 49 arthroplasties in 40 patients. The mean age of the
patients
at operation was 52.1 years old(range twenty-four to seventy years old); they were folowed up for an average 49.1 months(range thirty-six to ninety-eight months).
the average preoperative Harris hip score was 40.0 points, which improved to 84.7 points. 10 cases(20.8%) complained of thigh pain. Almost all patients were satisfied with the operative procedures except 3 cases(6.1%).
There was a radiolucent acetabular line less than 2mm in width in 7 cases(14.3%).
Noradiolucent acetabular line 2mm in width or more, definite loosening and revision were noted.
A radiolucent femoral line 2mm in width or more in 7 cases(14.3%) and less than 2mm in width in 37 cases(75.5%). There were 2 cases(6.1%) of vertical subsidence 6mm or more and a pedestal was noted in 6 cases(12.2%). Three cases(6.1%) had
femoral
component loosening and 3 cases(6.1%) had been revised. Bone remodeling by stress shielding effect was revealed in 41 cases(83.7%). The heterotopic ossification was noted in 18 cases(36.7%) and femoral osteolysis occured in 3
cases(6.1%)
